Talk on Quality Assurance in Medical Education

UM1 held a lunch time talk on Quality Assurance in Medical Education on 30th August 2019 at 2:00pm at the Presentation Room (1) in Lanmadaw Campus. Chairperson of the Myanmar Medical Council Accreditation Committee (MMCAC), Professor Dr. Khin Maung Aye, who is also a member of the National Academic and Quality Assurance assessment committee (NAQAC), gave a talk on "Quality Assurance Leading To Quality Culture". After that, Professor Aye Maung Han, chairperson of the Central Committee for Integrated Curriculum Development, and a member of the MMCAC, talked on "How to achieve Accreditation of Basic Medical Education Programs in Myanmar". Several key persons of Myanmar's meidcal education sector including Professor Ne Win, Professor Kyi Kyi Thin, Professor Win Win Mya, Professor Tun Oo, Rector Professor Zaw Wai Soe, Pro-rector Professor Myint Myint Nyein, Professors and Heads of the departments of UM1, and members of the Self-Assessment Report Committee actively joined the talk. Several issues on implementing an accreitation system were discussed including important aspects of the integrated curriculum. Myanmar's medical education is now on track towards a culture in which quality assurance procedures run within the institution, accredited by domestic accreditation bodies and international accreditation bodies. Accreditation systems are vital to ensure every product of medical education institutions meet the minimal standard required for safe and efficient health care in Myanmar.
