Physics Department

Before 1964, the physics studies of the Institute of Medicine was under the charge of the physics department of the Arts and Science University of Yangon. In 1964 the department of physics was started at the Institute of Medicine I in Yangon, but the teaching of physics at the Institute of Medicine I was still under the management of the Yangon Arts and Science University. At that time, Daw Su Su (M.Sc) and U Ohn Kyaw (M.Sc) were the lecturing staff of physics and physics was taught in English. U Lim Kyone Whee and U H.S. Vanya were demonstrators in charge and ten demonstrators were assigned to experiment duty in rotation. If there was any difficulty at the physics department of the Institute of Medicine I, Saya U San Thar Aung, the physics professor of Yangon Arts and Science University, gave the necessary help. In 1968, after his visit to China, Sayagyi U Ba Than, the rector, remarked that medical students in China were studied mathematics. Mathematics was first introduced at the Institute of Medicine and it was managed by the physics department. While working at the Institute of Medicine I, Daw Su Su wrote and published a text-book “Fundamental Physics of Medicine” according to the advice of Saya U San Thar Aung. In 1972, Daw Su Su left the department of Physics for her Ph.D in Australia, Daw Khin Mya Hlaing became head of the department of physics. In 1982, the department of physics was assigned to the management of Ministry of Health. Since then, it has been managed by the Ministry of Health.
